Vedi Vazhipadu - an adult comedy that is novel but fails on shallow narration

An adult comedy that has no skin show or vulgarity but succeeds in exposing the innate misogyny of the male characters? Tune into director #ShambhuPurushotman’s #VediVazhipadu on #YouTube.

Set in Trivandrum, during the Attukal Pongala festival, three men gather in a house when their wives are away busy with the festival. They hire a hooker and propose to have a good time but circumstances reveal their true identities.

The movie is pretty much that but what makes it appealing is the talented cast and the manner in which the characters are stylized. #Indrajith plays Rahul, a stock broker who is plain bored with life. Then there is #MuraliGopy who is a gamer and is the chief orchestrator . Pradeep (#SreejithRavi) is enamored of his friend’s wife. Sanjay (#SaijuKurup) with the trademark Mallu moustache is the weakest and confused of the lot. He is attempting to regain his lost machismo and things go downhill after his clumsy and laughable attempts at doing his thing.

The friends watch television and follow the updates on the Pongala festival to keep track of the time. Rashmi (#Anusree) is a reporter covering the event and wards off the advances by her new boss PP with adeptness. #Anumol as the hooker is perhaps the calmest in sharp contrast to the tension writ large on the men’s faces. #Mythili as Vidhya is convincing in her role.

The idea is novel; the narration is rather shallow and disappoints. Cinematography by #ShehnadJalal and BGM by #Bijibal are nothing to write home about. What is unexpected and standout is how the turn of events ends up in a shameful realization for each of the men.
