Match 10 - MI vs RCB - Super Over to a Super Team for India ?

200+scores by both teams. Some exceptional batting exploits. Washy Sundar and his 1 for 7 in the three powerplay overs. Young Ishan Kishan chases down the RCB total with aplomb. Pollard finds his mojo and hey presto a super over!

ASHOK’s FIVE reviews Match 10 of IPL 2020 – MI vs RCB almost scripted to perfection for edge-of-the-seat tension and a climax that is unparalleled. In the end, I must confess, I am glad to see RCB squeak through to victory. The relief was palpable on Virat Kohli’s face and pretty much everyone ese on the ground.

Let me start with perhaps the lesser noticed part of the match. Washy Sundar is an enigma of sorts, having played only one T20I for India and that too way back in 2017. Today he kept the batsmen under check in the power-play overs with a 1 for 7 in three overs. I went back and checked and came back amazed that he is just 20 years of age. Great to see RCB reposing their faith in this find of the Tamil Nadu Premier League and I do hope he comes into his own and finds a place at the National level.

Pollard was sheer brute force as he smashed 49 in two overs leaving Zampa and Chehal scampering for cover. His longevity with Mumbai Indians is explained by innings such as this. No one else can pull off what he did today.

Saini bowled a magnificent super over bowling the pitched-up deliveries that troubled the MI batsmen. It has been fascinating to see him gaining in stature and confidence and given the right mentoring, he can well be the future of India’s fast bowling attack.

Yes Padikkal, ABD, Pollard all showed their mettle. But the honours go the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed youngster Ishan Kishan. The youngster demonstrated resolve, talent and supreme maturity in going after the RCB total.

Yes, the super over finish was brilliant. But I came away from the match thinking how we already have a pipeline of youngsters that is awe-inspiring. Think about a line-up that boasts Subhman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson and bowlers of the calibre of Bumrah, Bishnoi, Saini and Mavi. In between is a bunch of youngsters that includes Nagarkoti, Washy Sundar, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Singh and Priyam Garg. Wow!
